Danielle and Alexander Gamelin and Their Story...
|
Drawn to the cold and ice from the start, 15 year-old brother and sister twins, Danielle and
Alexander Gamelin, were born on February 22,1993 in Boston, Massachusetts during a blizzard that
blanketed the city in two feet of snow. Inseparable companions, they stared at each other and babbled
in full conversation before they could even crawl. It's been a special bond that has only grown.
In March 1996, the Gamelin family tuned in as Pasha Grishuk and
Evgeny Platov captured the Gold Medal in Ice Dance at the World
Figure Skating Championships in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Three-year old Danielle and Alex were fixed on the ice dance team's
every move. Arm in arm they imitated Grishuk and Platov gliding
across the floor in their socks as Grishuk and Platov skated across
the ice. "We want to be skater-dancers, we want to be skater-dancers",
the twins screeched in unison.
In September 1998, the Gamelins moved to North Merrick, Long
Island, New York. No matter what sports or activities each twin was
exposed to, nothing but their shared interest in dance kept their
attention. Nothing, that is, until the summer of 2000 when they laced
on their first pair of figure skates.
"We want to be skater-dancers" was now a passion in full force. By the fall of 2003, Danielle and
Alexander were being coached by international skating professionals, Alexander Esman and Marina
Koulbitskaya. A few private lessons a week became daily coaching. Daily coaching became
comprehensive training including ballroom dance, ballet, weight training and work with choreographers
and costume designers.
Evgeny Platov, who inspired the twins at the early age of three, continues to inspire them
today. But now, rather then watching him on TV, they travel to New Jersey twice weekly to train
with him and his senior teams. Evgeny Platov has choreographed Danielle and Alexander's
their free dance for the past two years and now again this coming season. On the ice daily with
their coaches, Esman and Koulbitskaya, Danielle and Alex continue to develop their technical
skating and ice dance skills. And as they grow and mature, their commitment to rise through
the ranks of this skating discipline continues to deepen.
